After a disappointing run of four consecutive losses at the end of October, Hellas Verona is looking to break the negative streak this Sunday as they face Monza at Stadio Bentegodi. Apart from their struggles in Serie A, Hellas also suffered an early exit from the cup competition during the week. In contrast, Monza is currently in a comfortable mid-table position.

Verona, who narrowly avoided relegation through a playoff last season, seems to be in for another tough battle against the drop this year. They have lost seven of their last nine matches in various competitions and have struggled to secure victories. Their season started on a positive note with a Coppa Italia win against Ascoli and earning six points from their initial two league games against Empoli and Roma, which is a better Serie A performance compared to last year when they had only managed one win in 16 games. However, their performance has steadily declined since then.

A recent 1-0 loss to Juventus placed Hellas just outside the relegation zone, and they've had trouble finding the back of the net, ranking among the lowest-scoring teams in the Italian top flight this season. Moreover, they've collected fewer points than any other club since September, and their Coppa Italia campaign ended with a 2-0 defeat in Bologna, which was further marred by Suat Serdar's red card in the second half.

These challenging circumstances have put considerable pressure on Marco Baroni to deliver better results. The upcoming series of matches against Genoa, Lecce, and Udinese in the next month might be his last opportunity to turn the team's fortunes around.

First and foremost, Verona is set to host Monza at the Bentegodi stadium this weekend, with the aim of securing their first Serie A victory against the newly-promoted Monza, who only made their way into the top tier of Italian football in 2022.

In their previous encounters, Monza managed to earn four points from two matches, helping them secure their safety in the league last season. Their strong performance this season suggests that they might be headed for another mid-table finish.

Monza, under the guidance of highly-regarded coach Raffaele Palladino, boasts one of the best defensive records in Serie A and has suffered just one defeat in the past two months.

Furthermore, they have not been defeated at their home ground, with their recent 1-1 draw against Udinese being a testament to their solid form. In that match, Andrea Colpani, who has been in excellent form, scored the opening goal, but Monza couldn't maintain their lead. At the moment, they are just two points behind both of the Rome-based clubs and are within striking distance of the top six in the standings.

However, it's worth noting that going back to the end of the previous season, Palladino's team has lost four of their last six Serie A away matches. Their upcoming visit to Verona might present an opportunity to improve their away record.

The home team had a strong beginning to their season but have since lost their momentum, and they currently sit just outside the relegation zone. In their recent match against Juventus, they suffered a 1-0 defeat and appeared to be heading for a draw before Juventus scored a late winning goal.

Hellas Verona is currently positioned 16th in the league standings with only eight points from 10 games. They are one point ahead of Empoli, who occupy the first relegation spot, and will aim to widen that gap in the upcoming match.

On the other hand, Monza has had a mixed season in Serie A. In their last game against Udinese, they played to a 1-1 draw, with Andrea Colpani scoring the opening goal in the first half before their opponents equalized in the second.

Monza is currently placed 10th in the league table with 13 points and will be looking to increase their points total in the upcoming Sunday match.

The two teams, Verona and Monza, have faced each other 51 times in the past. The home side has won 15 of these encounters, while the visitors have emerged victorious 19 times. There have been 17 draws between the two teams, including their most recent meeting, which ended in a 1-1 draw. The hosts have lost just one of their last eight games when facing Monza.

Monza has conceded nine goals in Serie A this season, with only four teams conceding fewer goals, three of which currently hold Champions League positions. Verona, on the other hand, is one of the lowest-scoring teams in the Italian top-flight this season, having scored only six goals.

Notably, all three of the Biancorossi's league defeats this season have occurred in away matches.
