Ahead of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, the USA will face Switzerland in a friendly match on Tuesday at Geodis Park in Nashville.
On Saturday, the US let a 1-0 lead slip, falling 2-1 to Turkey in a friendly, while Switzerland's top squad triumphed over Mexico 4-2.
Despite a strong opening against Turkey, scoring just 59 seconds into the game—the quickest goal ever for the US against a UEFA opponent—the Americans struggled to create chances and ultimately lost narrowly. This defeat marked the third consecutive loss for coach Mauricio Pochettino, a record not seen since Jurgen Klinsmann’s tenure in 2015. The US conceded two goals in quick succession, within two minutes and 22 seconds, the fastest pair of goals allowed since a 2018 friendly against England.
The US has now lost six straight games by a single goal and has conceded in four of their five matches this year. Tuesday’s game will be the 10th time the US men’s team plays in Nashville, where they have a record of five wins and two losses.
The US has dropped five consecutive matches against European sides and hasn’t defeated a UEFA team since a 2-1 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in December 2021.
Switzerland, meanwhile, continued their strong form on Saturday, efficiently scoring four goals from six shots on target against Mexico. Under coach Murat Yakin, the Swiss have netted seven goals in their last two games and have scored in six consecutive matches. They remain unbeaten in 2025 and could secure a third straight win on Tuesday, a feat they last achieved between March and June 2023.
However, Switzerland has struggled on the road, winning just one of their last seven away games across all competitions, with that victory coming against Mexico last weekend. Since a 3-2 loss to Slovakia in November 2015, they’ve only lost once when scoring multiple goals—a 3-2 defeat to Spain in last year’s UEFA Nations League.
The Swiss have never lost to the US on American soil, with their only meeting resulting in a 1-1 draw during the 1994 World Cup at the Pontiac Silverdome, the first World Cup match played indoors.
