In the Green group match on Tuesday afternoon in Turin, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Holger Rune square off against each other, both looking to recover from their early losses at the ATP World Tour Finals.

In their first match, Jannik Sinner easily defeated the sixth-seeded Greek, and Rune battled hard but lost in three sets against Novak Djokovic.

2019 champion Tsitsipas faced the Turin poster child in his first ATP Finals match, looking to build on a winning record of five from his first seven elite encounters with Sinner, who had triumphed in their most recent meeting in Rotterdam.

Tsitsipas competed well against Sinner, committing just five unforced errors and no double faults; but, the Italian's lightning-fast serves and 21 winners were the difference in Sunday's 6-4 6-4 victory.

Tsitsipas, who graciously congratulated the 22-year-old on a fantastic beginning performance after the match, was let down by a few strokes on that side and failed to create a single opportunity to break the man despite hitting some incredible backhands on the hard court.

Tsitsipas, who now has a 51-23 record for the year after losing to Sinner in straight sets, is dreadfully low in the Green group rankings behind Djokovic, Rune, and the Italian, raising the possibility of yet another early exit.

Tsitsipas, who triumphed in his 2019 debut, has lost three straight matches in the round-robin phase and will be doomed to failure if he is unable to right the wrongs against Rune, who too has some righteous issues following an amazing match against Djokovic.

Before starting his first-ever ATP Finals campaign, Rune had defeated Djokovic in all four of their elite matches and had a 50% success percentage against the 24-time Grand Slam champion, whom he had defeated in the Paris Masters final the previous year and the Italian Open in May.

The Scandinavian beauty would again give Djokovic a serious match, but as their three-hour slog drew to an end and he began to lose steam, his respected opponent took advantage and defeated Rune 6-7[4] 7-6[1]. 3-6 loss in the main match of the evening.

By doing this, Djokovic guaranteed himself the top spot at the end of the year for the eighth time and dealt Rune a blow to his first year-end tournament. Still, the 20-year-old should be especially proud of his performance as he beat Djokovic 18 to 10, even though he was penalized for seven double faults.

Rune, who is ranked third in the Green group and has the potential to advance to the knockout stage with a victory in the ATP Finals on Tuesday, is still in the running for redemption. The 38 previous wins also contributed to Rune's pushing Djokovic to his limit.Rune was happy with how he handled the physical demands of his battle with Djokovic, but it's unclear if there will be any lasting effects for the eighth seed on Tuesday. Rune has pledged that he and recently hired coach Boris Becker will continue to "fight" while a semi-final spot is at stake.
