The upcoming Seville derby at Estadio Ramon on Sunday evening will feature a clash between Sevilla and an in-form Real Betis in Spain's premier league.

Both teams come into this match after participating in European fixtures. Sevilla faced a 2-0 defeat against Arsenal in the Champions League, while Real Betis secured a 4-1 victory over Aris Limassol in the Europa League.

Sevilla had a disappointing 12th-place finish in La Liga last season, marking their lowest position since being relegated from the top flight in 1999-2000. This season, they have struggled, accumulating only 11 points from their first 11 matches and currently sitting in 15th place in the league standings.

In La Liga, Sevilla has not secured a victory since the end of September, registering one loss and four draws in their last five games, including a 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo in their recent outing.

Diego Alonso's team faced a setback in the Champions League on Wednesday, suffering a 2-0 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. This result places them at the bottom of Group B with two points, making it challenging to progress to the round of 16.

In their previous 104 league encounters with Real Betis, Sevilla has won 49, drawn 25, and lost 30. However, both meetings in Spain's top flight last season ended in draws.

Real Betis has not won a Seville derby since September 2018, marking a nine-match winless streak. Despite Sevilla having home advantage, some argue that Real Betis may be considered the favorites for the upcoming match.

Under Manuel Pellegrini's management, Real Betis has secured victory in their last five matches and maintained an unbeaten record in the last 11 games across various competitions. Their recent successes include a 4-1 triumph over Aris Limassol in the Europa League, placing them at the top of Group C with two games remaining.

In the Copa del Rey, Real Betis dominated Hernan Cortes with a resounding 12-1 victory earlier this month. In the league, they secured wins against Osasuna and Mallorca, elevating them to sixth place in the standings with 20 points from the first 12 matches of the season.

Alaves, known as El Glorioso, have not been defeated since mid-September when they faced Barcelona. Finishing sixth in La Liga last season, they aim to secure another European spot in the current campaign.

Sevilla will once again have to contend with the absence of Marcos Acuna, Orjan Nyland, Sergio Ramos, Marcao, and Alfonso Pastor due to injuries for the upcoming Derbi Sevillano this weekend.

The home team is anticipated to face another setback with Boubakary Soumare likely unavailable due to an injury sustained in the second half of the clash against Arsenal in the Champions League.

Head coach Alonso is set to implement changes from the previous match in North London, with Ivan Rakitic, Lucas Ocampos, Jesus Navas, and Dodi Lukebakio expected to return to the starting lineup for Sunday's fixture.

On the Real Betis side, Rui Silva continues to be sidelined due to a muscular issue, while Youssouf Sabaly and Marc Bartra are also unavailable due to injuries.
