Top four candidates Monday night's match between Roma and relegation-threatened Cagliari takes place at Stadio Olimpico.

The Giallorossi have climbed the Serie A rankings thanks to back-to-back victories since Daniele De Rossi's debut, while their opponents have since fallen back into the drop zone.

Daniele De Rossi made an instant impression as Roma's manager when Jose Mourinho was fired. He guided his team to back-to-back Serie A triumphs at the end of January, keeping them in the running for Champions League qualifying.

De Rossi, who was named temporary manager until the end of the season, has already begun to gather some momentum. Against two of the lower-tier players in the top division, his move to a more attacking system with a back four paid off.

Roma will undoubtedly be confident of defeating another Serie A underdog before two crucial tests in the coming days: Inter Milan will visit Rome the next weekend, and Feyenoord, the Dutch champions, will be waiting in the Europa League. Roma hasn't lost at home since September.

Precedent is unquestionably on the Giallorossi's side as they have both scored in 13 straight league home games, lost none of their previous eight games against Cagliari at the Olimpico, and kept a clean sheet six times.

Actually, Cagliari has lost 12 times in their past 17 Serie A games against Monday's hosts, including the last three. They have only won once.

After losing at home to Torino the previous game, head coach Claudio Ranieri returns to his old club in need of points to keep his team afloat in the Italian elite.

Before the game, the Sardinian team honored club great Gigi Riva. However, they were already behind against their in-form rivals after giving up two goals in the first half, and Nicolas Viola's goal in the 77th minute did nothing to lessen their setback.
