Fresh from their initial Champions League group-stage encounter versus Inter Milan, Real Sociedad will shift their focus back to La Liga this upcoming Sunday as they prepare to host Getafe at the Reale Arena.

Currently, the home team occupies the 11th spot on the league table, having accumulated six points from their opening five matches. On the other hand, Getafe sits in the ninth position, having secured seven points from their first five outings in the 2023-24 season.

Real Sociedad has yet to find their stride in La Liga this campaign, with just one win, three draws, and one loss in their five matches, resulting in a total of six points. This performance has positioned them in the middle of the league standings at 11th place.

The Basque side initiated their league journey with three consecutive draws against Girona, Celta Vigo, and Las Palmas before breaking the trend with a thrilling 5-3 victory over Granada just before the international break.

However, Real Sociedad suffered their inaugural defeat of the season at the hands of Real Madrid last weekend. Moreover, they recently participated in a high-stakes Champions League clash against Inter Milan, commencing their group-stage campaign.

In this encounter, Brais Mendez found the back of the net in the fourth minute, seemingly securing all three points for Imanol Alguacil's squad in their maiden Group D fixture. Nevertheless, a late equalizer by Lautaro Martinez salvaged a draw for the Italian giants.

Consequently, the White and Blues have now registered four draws in six competitive matches this season. Their upcoming fixtures do not promise any respite, with challenging encounters against Valencia, Athletic Bilbao, and Atletico Madrid awaiting them in their next three league games. Additionally, they are slated to face Red Bull Salzburg in their next European fixture on October 3.

Getafe, on the other hand, comes into this game after defeating Osasuna 3-2 the weekend prior, with Mason Greenwood making his debut as a substitute in the second half.

Nemanja Maksimovic's goal in the 86th minute gave Getafe the victory and gave Jose Bordalas' squad seven points from five games, bringing them up to ninth place in the standings. The two teams were tied going into the closing exchanges.

The capital team's season began with a scoreless draw against champions Barcelona at home before going on to lose 3-0 at Girona. However, on August 28, they returned to winning ways by defeating Alaves at home.

Although the Deep Blue Ones fell (2-1) against Real Madrid by a razor-thin margin prior to the break, there have been several hopeful indicators thus far this season.

Getafe, who had placed 15th in each of the last three La Liga campaigns, has only defeated Real Sociedad once in their last six league meetings. Real Sociedad won the comparable encounter 2-0 last season.

Aritz Elustondo and Martin Merquelanz will both be out this weekend due to injury, although Real Sociedad did not experience any new fitness issues against Inter.

There shouldn't be any significant shocks in the starting lineup for the home team, who will likely use a 4-3-3 system with Mikel Oyarzabal and Takefusa Kubo in the forward roles.

However, head coach Alguacil might make a change in the attack, possibly substituting Mohamed-Ali Cho for Ander Barrenetxea. Umar Sadiq is also vying to be included in the lineup.

Greenwood, who is on loan from Manchester United, is anticipated to be in Getafe's squad once more and might make his second appearance for the team as a substitute.

Due to the red card he received as a substitute against Osasuna last weekend, Fabrizio Angileri will not be present, while both Luis Milla and Enes Unal are injured.

Real Sociedad and Getafe will face off at Real Arena on Sunday when the Spanish La Liga resumes with a new slate of games.

The hosts are coming off an outstanding draw against Inter Milan in their Champions League debut, and they'll be looking to improve on that performance this weekend.

Real Sociedad began their Champions League run well on Wednesday by holding runner-up Inter Milan to a 1-1 draw in their Group D opening.

With that outcome, Imanol Alguacil's team has now gone 14 home games without losing in all competitions, picking up seven victories and seven draws since their 1-0 setback to Rayo Vallecano in February.

Real Sociedad will now focus on La Liga, where they have so far won just one of their first four games, lost once, and earned three draws.

Last Sunday at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, Getafe defeated Osasuna 3-2 to carry on their excellent home winning streak.
The only loss in the last two home games for Jagoba Arrasate's team was a narrow 2-1 loss to Real Madrid on September 2 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Getafe has a better history in this matchup, having won 13 of the last 30 meetings between the teams. In that time, Real Sociedad has recorded eight victories while nine victories have been split.Since October 2020, Alguacil's team has gone undefeated in five of their previous six games against the Geta Azulones, winning three and drawing two.Getafe has lost 10 and won 5 of its 15 competitive away games this season, going winless in all but one of those games.Real Sociedad has only won one of its six games this season across all competitions, losing one and drawing four.

After several seasons of beginning out very well but eventually fading, Imanol Aguacil finally guided Real Sociedad into the UEFA Champions League group stages with a top four finish in the previous campaign. David Silva's injury has cost La Real some manpower, and the Basque club has chosen not to immediately bring in a replacement.

Even though they only earned one win in their first six games across all competitions this season, their performances, particularly those of Japanese attacker Takefusa Kubo, have been outstanding. In their most recent UEFA Champions League match, which took place in midweek, they drew 1-1 with Internazionale at home.

Getafe had a difficult season prior and nearly avoided relegation on the final day of the 2023–24 La Liga season. Quique Sanchez Flores had to go, and they had to go back to Jose Bordalas, who had earlier guided the Madrid-based team into the UEFA Europa League knockout rounds.

Bordalas plays a defensive and aggressive style, with the hostility being constantly displayed this season. On the first day of the season, they drew 0-0 with Barcelona at home after a total of 26 minutes of added time. They now occupy the middle of the table after managing two wins and also suffering two losses since that time.Real Sociedad was ultimately led by Imanol Aguacil into the UEFA Champions League group stages with a strong performance.
