The Johan Cruyff Shield, the official name of the Supercup match, officially opens the Dutch season. The Netherlands holds its Supercup at the stadium of the team that won the championship, in contrast to many other nations where the event is hosted at neutral sites because winning the league is valued more than winning the domestic cup. Consequently, Eindhoven will host the game in 2024.

New hopes accompany a new season. There's hardly much question that PSV will win gold in the Eredivisie once more. Last year, the Eindhoven club was the strongest, and this year, things have only become worse for its rivals.

Even more crucial for outcomes is the fact that PSV has managed to hold onto all of its important players and coaching staff (for the time being). The squad has started playing a whole different style of football and is dominating in the Netherlands under Peter Bosz's direction.

The quantity of wounded defenders is the only issue. There are worries that Sambo and Ramalho, two defensive players who were free agents this summer, are leaving the team. For PSV, everything else seemed to be going well. They acquired Utrecht's Ryan Flamingo and Bayern's Malik Tillman. After playing for PSV on loan earlier, Sergiño Dest has now signed a complete deal; however, he will not be able to assist the squad until winter owing to a major injury.

In their eleven Dutch Supercup appearances, Feyenoord has suffered seven losses. Although some would contend that this competition is not very important, it wouldn't be fair to the players who don't often take home prizes. Feyenoord lags behind its rivals in this area, whereas PSV and Ajax consistently win.

But I don't think PSV will face much of a threat from the Rotterdam team this season. This is true not only for the Supercup but for all Dutch competitions. Many people think that Arne Slot, who transformed Feyenoord into a team capable of competing against the more prosperous and successful rivals, PSV and Ajax, was a major factor in the team's success.

Brian Priske has taken Slot's spot at Rotterdam now that he is at Liverpool.Prior to this, the Dane was employed at Sparta in Prague, where he won the Czech title twice. In the battle for the gold medals, he will now have to show himself in a more competitive league and play the part of the underdog. Ajax, who will ultimately overcome their difficulties, and even Twente and AZ are threats in addition to PSV. The squad seemed to naturally compete for the top place when Slot was at the club, but it's unclear if that will continue under the new coach.

PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord Rotterdam, two of the Big Three of Dutch football, will open the new campaign this weekend when they play in the Super Cup. This Johan Cruyff Shield match is expected to be tight and will take place on Sunday at the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven.

PSV defeated Feyenoord, their opponents this weekend, by a record 91 points to win the Eredivisie, which allowed them to advance to this match. Feyenoord defeated PSV to win the KNVB Cup, which allowed them to go to the Super Cup.

Since losing manager Arne Slot to Liverpool in the summer, the Feyenoord camp has seen significant adjustments. Will that make it harder for them to compete against PSV? We examine both clubs' potential as the weekend looks to provide a great taste of the season to come.

This implies that there will be a lot of pressure on manager Peter Bosz to meet the expectations. Actually, they defeated Feyenoord 1-0 to win the previous season, so a similar performance this weekend would give the supporters enough to celebrate.
