This season, Panathinaikos has undergone a complete makeover compared to last season, and it will be one of the primary challengers for the top spot in the Euroleague. The roster of this squad has seen significant financial investment, hence the goals are very high. However, Panathinaikos really needs "time" for this team to play and perform at its best. Pao must soon find his groove in the Euroleague because it is a fierce tournament that does not accept errors or negative phases. If he does not, he will be in problems.
Ergin Ataman, a seasoned coach who had recently had success with Anadolu Efes, was hired by them. He will attempt to mimic Efes's game strategy from Panathinaikos. The additions of Kostas Sloukas and Juancho Hernangomez stand out among the best reinforcements that the club's management gave him. Sloukas, who left Olympiacos, their fiercest opponent, in a move that seemed like a major bomb, will be in charge of the "green" team this year. Juancho, who is coming from the NBA and has a wealth of NBA experience, will add width to the Athens club. Popular "Bo Cruz" provides protection in the air but also has great offensive aesthetics. Up to three Belgrade players arrived at Panathinaikos.
While Mathias Lessort and Ioannis Papapetrou arrived from Partizan, the amazing Argentinean Luca Vildoza arrived from Crvena zvezda. Three players that dominated the EuroCup the previous year were selected by Ataman. Along with Kyle Guy, who dominated at Joventut, Jerian Grant, the Eurocup MVP, and Polish player Balcerovski, the best young player and competition champion, all arrived.
Recently, Panathinaikos and Olympiacos competed for the first trophy of the year, and Olympiacos triumphed against Panathinaikos in the Greek Super Cup final. The "greens" were only able to score 11 points in the first half thanks to the Piraeus red and whites. Ataman's team is anticipated to respond strongly, and with the assistance of the packed OAKA stadium, they will provide a favorable outcome and the first victory of the new Euroleague season.
Olympiacos was one shot away from winning the Euroleague, but Sergio Lull intervened, and Madrid won the championship instead of Piraeus. However, it is the result of one game where there is no room for error, and Olympiacos was the best and most reliable team in Europe last season. Olympiacos pulled in suitable replacements despite losing its two top players from last season, and this season they will be very strong in both ways.
Sasha Vezenkov, the team's top player from the previous year, left the group to join the Sacramento Kings in the NBA. The departure of Kostas Sloukas, one of the best players, to Panathinaikos greatly saddened Olympiacos supporters. The already strained and intense relationships between the two clubs will be made worse by this transfer.
The Piraeus team added suitable replacements to its lineup. The most well-known name is Nikola Milutinov, who is coming back to Olympiacos from Moscow after spending a few seasons in CSKA. Milutinov, one of the league's top centers, will significantly improve Olympiacos. Luke Sikma, who has long been among the finest players in the Euroleague at position four, comes from Alba. Nigel Williams-Goss, who played for Real last season, joined Milutinov in returning to Olympiacos.
Ignas Brazdeikis, a former NBA player who represents Lithuania, arrived as the final reinforcement. He is one of the best 1 on 1 players in both directions and might be a wonderful substitute for Vezenkov. When comparing the rosters from this season and last, Olympiacos appears to be much wider and stronger this year, and we think they may advance even further.
It will be exceedingly challenging for Panathinaikos to breach Olympiacos' defensive fortress because of their great energy, both offensively and defensively. They are active on the passing line and apply constant pressure to the ball.
Panathinaikos will enter this game with considerably more zeal and will strive to win and leave the best possible impression on their supporters. The issue is if Panathinaikos will be able to win despite the crowded OAKA. We made the decision to hunt for the victor in the Piraeus club since Olympiacos is a much better-organized team and so far they are looking much better.
