Fenerbahce vs. Panathinaikos: Evaluation and Forecast A EuroLeague matchup between Panathinaikos and Fenerbahce is scheduled.
With two of those defeats occurring in their most recent games against Zalgiris in the EuroLeague and Aris in the Greek League, Panathinaikos has only lost three of their past 10 games in all competitions. They are now fourth in the EuroLeague rankings with a 15-10 record.
Ergin Ataman keeps saying that the Panathinaikos squad has a lot of space for improvement, and it appears like some players are capable of far higher performance than they do now. In this sense, attention is mostly focused on Juancho Hernangomez, who still finds it difficult to adjust to European basketball even after being injury-free. At 14 points per game on average, Dinos Mitoglou is having a fantastic season, while Kostas Sloukas offers tremendous defensive and offensive organization security. In two-on-two scenarios, Mathias Lessort and Sloukas create a potent combo that is hard to stop. While Jerian Grant is the team's defensive rock, Kendrick Nunn makes contributions on both sides of the floor.
Fenerbahce got what they wanted with the coach switch, using shock treatment and a simple routine to give Sarunas Jasikevicius control over the locker room. They have only lost twice in their previous 10 games, the most recent one being a EuroLeague battle versus Monaco.
As seen by their performances against Real Madrid, Zalgiris, and Monaco, Fenerbahce clearly falters when up against clubs that are comparable to them physically and athletically. They will have to muster the resolve to counter Panathinaikos in this regard, with Jonathan Motley in the paint possibly carrying the greatest burden. Nick Calathes will be in charge of leading the attack, and Scottie Wilbekin is playing well. Marko Guduric could gain by having more opportunities to shoot. Since Nigel Hayes-Davis is the primary link between the defense and the attack, a lot will depend on how he performs against Mitoglou.
Despite Fenerbahce's current four-game winning streak against Panathinaikos, a number of indicators point to a home team victory by a margin larger than the spread that is being given. Through a string of successful games, Panathinaikos has been able to draw crowds back to the OAKA Arena, which provides them an added advantage and puts pressure on the other team. Fenerbahce is a physically powerful squad, but they frequently struggle against teams that are physically equal to them, and that is probably going to happen again this time.
