This Saturday, Oxford United welcome Burnley to theirrowable ground with the intention of strengthing their position within the top half of world’s most popular football league, the Championship.

Most worryingly for the home side, Burnley are currently in fourth place, and only three points behind the top teams.

Burnley began the year this season as bookmakers favorites to clinch this league with much ease and pomposity.

They are now reduced to sweating it out for every single point, having to win from behind to beat the bottom-dwelling Portsmouth 2-1 the last time out.

After Scott Parker’s men beat Leeds United 1-0 in the last game this served as a rude shock to remind the team that the season will not be a cake walk.

On the flip side however, Burnley have arguably had the two most difficult starts to any team in the division after featuring in matches against other teams such as Luton Town, Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers.

That will fill Parker with confidence that they will close the three-point gap with West Bromwich Albion, while ideally achieving their second consecutive clean sheet.

On the other hand, Oxford just wants to avoid relegation in the second tier after over two decades languishing in the lower regions of EFL.

However, for Des Buckingham’s side they are currently playing like an outside bet for the playoffs with nine points scored from their six matches.

The Yellows have lost their past three away matches – and the most recent of those came in last weekend’s 2-1 loss at Bristol City – but the U’s have remained unbeaten on home soil, scoring 10 goals and conceding only one in the process.

Of course, the Kassam Stadium has hosted Norwich City, Preston North End, and Stoke and in no uncertain terms told Burnley that they will face a challenge date to end that streak on the upcoming Saturday.

Will Vaulks is anticipated to enter the Oxford starting lineup against Bristol City after Josh McEachran had to be substituted in the first half.

Although Buckingham is unlikely to make many significant changes to his team for this match, Malcolm Ebiowei is a viable possibility on the wing.

Parker may alter his Burnley starting lineup in at least two ways despite the team's recent triumph.

Resuming his career following a ban, Bashir Humphreys might replace TJ Egan-Riley at right back.

Jaidon Anthony may be replaced in the final third by Jeremy Sarmiento, while seven players are still listed as injured.
