Timberwolves Dominate Thunder, Aim to Even Series in Game 4
After a commanding 42-point win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Minnesota Timberwolves are poised to tie the Western Conference semifinals in Tuesday’s Game 4.
The Thunder, who initially led the series 2-0, saw their advantage shrink after a crushing 143-101 loss at the Target Center on Saturday. The Timberwolves delivered one of their most explosive playoff performances, reigniting their hopes for a historic NBA Finals run.
Anthony Edwards spearheaded Minnesota’s charge with a stellar 30-point outing, adding six assists and just missing a double-double with nine rebounds. After a rough shooting night in Game 2 (1-of-9 from three), Edwards bounced back, draining five of eight from beyond the arc—accounting for 25% of the team’s 20 threes.
The Timberwolves showcased balanced scoring, with seven players hitting double digits. Julius Randle rebounded from a dismal six-point Game 2 to drop 26, while rookie Terrence Shannon Jr. impressed off the bench with 15 points.
Meanwhile, the Thunder struggled offensively. Fresh off his MVP announcement, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was held to just 14 points on 30% shooting. He shared the team-high scoring mark with Ajay Mitchell, while Chet Holmgren, Dillon Jones, and Jalen Williams combined for 33 points in the loss.
Mark Daigneault's side failed to establish themselves on the road once more, making only 35 of their 86 shots at the Target Center, including 12 for 40 in the first half, after shooting 50% as a team in the first two games.
With the exception of a 92-87 victory over the Denver Nuggets in Game 4 of the conference semi-finals on May 11, the Oklahoma City Thunder had dropped three of their last four games on enemy territory in the playoffs. The Minnesota Timberwolves have a perfect record going into Tuesday's crucial Game 4, and Rob Dillingham is fully recovered, so Finch can choose from a full house.
Edwards has now scored 30 points or more in four of Minnesota's last six postseason games thanks to his impressive performance over the weekend, and the 23-year-old will try to lead the Timberwolves' comeback.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have not made any progress in their injury situation; Serbian guard Nikola Topic has been out for the rest of the season due to a serious knee injury.
It will be interesting to watch how the recently crowned MVP recovers after being held to just 14 points on Saturday, which is his lowest point total in an NBA game this season. Gilgeous-Alexander leads the playoffs in scoring with 32.7 points per game.
With momentum shifting, Minnesota looks to level the series before heading back to Oklahoma City for Game 5 on Thursday. Can the Thunder regain control, or will the Timberwolves ride their newfound energy to another statement win?
