Roma will now return to the league after a midweek loss in Europe and Monza will aim for their third consecutive home victory on Sunday evening.

The Giallorossi have recently seen an enhanced domestic performance which however has not transferred in the European context of the Europa League, meanwhile their hosts are occupying the last position in the table with no leagues victory till now this season.

Roma went into their first two fixtures of the league-phase with only one point and should they wish to nab one of the eight spots in the new-look Europa League, then Thursday’s 1-0 loss to Elfsborg is not the best way to do so.

Right before the break, young forward Tommaso Baldanzi fouled in Sweden and gave away a penalty which the host team took and scored and in the final minutes, Lorenzo Pellegrini hit the woodwork, in vain.

The Rossoneri might have beaten Spezia 3-0 and Sassuolo 1-0 under new coach Juric, but Fiorentina was held to a 1-1 draw by Athletic Bilbao and will have to secure a victory over Dynamo Kiev in the upcoming fixture this month.

Aside from the Wednesday’s defeat in the Swedish city of Boras, Roma has been victorious in one of their last nine away fixtures in Serie A, which dates back to last campaign. In fact, the capital club have been involved in each first three of the term against Cagliari, Juventus and Genoa.

However, Juric will now hope to register three consecutive wins for the first time after tasting victory at the highest level of Italian football as a coach.

With a win this weekend, he would also become just the sixth manager in history to lead Roma to victory in his first three league games; two of those managers, however, were his most recent predecessors, Jose Mourinho and Daniele De Rossi. Although they were well-liked by the fans, the Friedkin family ultimately fired both of them.

Since making their long-awaited Serie A debut two years ago, Monza have yet to get the better of Roma: last season, they fell 1-0 at Stadio Olimpico before suffering a 4-1 home defeat in March.

The Biancorossi are on the longest winless streak among teams now in the top division of Italy, so their recent performance indicates they shouldn't hope to buck that trend on Sunday.

Alessandro Nesta's team has yet to win a Serie A game this season after last week's 2-0 loss to Napoli. In fact, dating back to last March, they have lost their past 15 league games.

The only time Monza had a worse dry stretch was a 16-match run over ten years ago, back when they were still in Serie C. Since then, there have been six draws and nine losses.

Despite having recently secured a spot in the Coppa Italia's last 16, where Bologna will be waiting for them in December, their miserable three-point total has them lingering in 20th place in the standings.

Prior to the impending international break, Ivan Juric will undoubtedly rotate his resources following Roma's performance on Thursday night.

After a recent injury layoff, Paulo Dybala has fully recovered and might replace Artem Dovbyk up front, with Matias Soule and Eldor Shomurodov making way.
