Millwall is expected to host Cardiff City at the Den in a midweek match as both teams strive to avoid relegation zone in the Championship.
The Lions will be targeting their first league victory in nearly a month in midweek’s match while the Bluebirds will try to capitalise on the thrashing of the Swans last match in the South Wales derby.
Millwall with Alex Neil is 17th in the table but they are only four points ahead of Portsmouth who is 22nd in the table and is in the relegation team.
Tuesday’s hosts are currently on a particularly poor run, having claimed just two victories and five points from the last five Championship fixtures and only Derby County, who are without a victory in four matches, are worse off in the current table beyond the teams facing the prospect of relegation to League One.
More recently, the Lions suffered a 1-0 defeat to Ruben Selles’s Hull City in a match that they rarely threatened their fluid backline and conceded through an own goal by the centre back Jake Cooper.
Lacking in such overtures has been the hallmark of Millwall’s season to date, and with 24 goals in total, Neil’s men are the least prolific team in the league.
In the reversed fixture, the Lions lost 1-0 to Cardiff while they have scored more than one goal on only one occasion in the last 19 second-tier matches meaning they must win a match with a clean sheet on Tuesday to stand a chance of beating the hosts.
However, Omer Riza’s Bluebirds are currently on a 2025’s run without a loss and have been victorious in three out of six last games in all competitions and have been drawn in the remaining three games.
In sharp contrast to their opponents' offensive struggles, the visitors have only failed to score once in the past month and haven't lost in the Championship since Boxing Day, when they were defeated 3-2 away by Oxford United.
However, only one team outside of the relegation zone has given up more goals than Cardiff this season—they have given up 17 more than Millwall.
Last time out, interim manager Riza's team defeated Swansea 3-0 in a thrilling South Wales derby match that featured a brace from Callum Robinson, the first since Michael Chopra's in 2010, a decisive header from Dimitrios Goutas, a red card for Riza, and an altercation off the field following the final whistle.
The Bluebirds will travel in midweek, though, and it's crucial to note that they have only triumphed once away in the Championship this year. If they want to win back-to-back league games for the first time since October, they will need to surpass their own record.
