Milano started the EuroLeague season extremely poorly but has been steadily raising its level and achieving better and better results. In the last 7 games of EuroLeague, they have achieved score 6 wins. Only a few days prior they faced Crvena Zvezda and emerged victorious yet again..
The new season is off to a poor start for Milano, as they were bad once more during the start of the season, particularly in the EuroLeague. Some of the spectators had this impression totally about Ettore Messina, wondering if the latter is still capable of managing the team at this level. However, over the course of the last number of weeks, the team has been playing extremely well and is now looking to be a genuine possibility for a high placing.
The game against Crvena Zvezda can be called undramatic—as far as the first quarter was over, Milano was leading by something like 2 baskets, and, generally, the gap never fell below 10 points for the remainder of the match. In leading 78-72 at the end of the third quarter, Milano’s lead got trimmed to as low as 5-6 points, but this was immediately countered by scoring bursts to silence the hosts again. As it has been with Milano throughout the EuroLeague season, they made more than 40% of their three-point attempts against Crvena Zvezda.
As long as they are hitting all those threes, they are lethal, and to boot, they also have that interiors’ touch. Nikola Mirotic and Zach LeDay have been most efficient players for the team this season. Both are sharp shooters who as well like to take and conquer the paint as well as the three point line.
Milano now has its own problems but the team is strong at the moment, and has benefited from a day of rest against Milano. I believe Milano should easily win the match if they find their groove on the attack end.
Olimpia Milano has played in 13 games this season, with the following record: 7 wins, 6 losses.
Olimpia Milano has a 53.85% success rate so far this season, and 46.15% of their games have ended in defeat.
The club averages 87.62 points per game, gives up 87.23 points to the opposition, and plays with an average over/under of 174.85 points.
The club averages 89.71 points per game at their home field. The team's defense gives up an average of 84.71 points per game when playing at home.
Still, they have lost some games in the domestic championship; however, it is possible to note that Asvel is in rather good shape at the moment. In their last four games they have accomplished only one loss while having three victories. At the time of implementation of this paper they stand at having 5-8 win/loss ratio in EuroLeague. In the last match they played, the upgraded team emerged the surprise real Madrid Team with a close shave victory.
In contrast to the previous seaon where Asvel performed pitifully in EuroLeague and underwent numerous coaching changes, this current season, they seem much better and are put up way better performances. With this they have been rewarded with some remarkable triumphs and not to mention their recent triumph over Real Madrid. In that game they lost a five-point lead in the last fifteen seconds of the game but Paris Lee won the game for them. Pieric Poupette as a head coach has been good choice to face EuroLeague season. The talented point guard left for NBA at a young age but he was unable to make a major mark in the NBA.
This season he became a true leader of Asvel and in the following seasons he will probably join one of Europe’s top clubs. But Asvel’s main weakness is that few players can have a high-quality performance in the paint. I want to stress that Lauvergne is performing quite well this season, but he is nowhere near the player he was seven or eight years ago. This is not clear in their interior strength where team’s rebounding stands among the worst of the league. On the hand, Asvel is the only team in the EuroLeague playing three-point field goal at an incredibly high rate of 40 percent plus.
Asvel is now preparing for an away game, against a team that come into this game in excellent form and one that has the capacity to expose the flaws in Asvel. Most importantly, they should not field a hot hand in the third quarter because Milano is also proficient in shooting the three pointers.
