For Sixers this season the team has two wins and both victories were over the Charlotte Hornets and Indiana Pacers. On balance of things, it has been worst begining of the season but there is always hope. The team has one of the best players in the world in the form of Embiid.
There are a lot of things happening to him and this team and most of it has to do with yet another injury. If this super talent cannot remain on the court – then this organization has no chance of success. Having Maxey and Paul George is not enough to have a winning team.
The one encouraging sign we have seen is Jared McCain. The rookie towers high on the list of Rookie of the Season and stands possibility to remain at the top of the list if he maintains the kind of performance he has been showing throughout. He is scoring an average of 15.2 points per win which puts him only behind the top two players on the list, and he is doing this with a field goal percentage of 47.7% per game.
Kelly Oubre is averaging 13.4 point per game together with 4.7 rebounds and 1.2 assist per game and still remains one of the best role playing players in this league.
Jaren Jackson Jr., you could say is performing at a level that would comfortably qualify him for an All-Star game right now. He is scoring the lights out averaging 23.1 points (24th in NBA), 5.7 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 1.4 steals’ on the season. Moreover, he is free throw shooting a dismal 53.8% which is 28th in the league in that category.
One of the biggest contributors to the Grizzlies this season is Scottie Pippen Jr, son of a legend Scottie Pippen. He has averaged 11.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.9 assist and 1.3 steal per game this season. Another young player who is causing jaw drops is Jaylen well. The 21-year-old rookie could well keep playing his way into Rookie of the Year contention. That was 11.8 points an average, and 3.1 rebounds for the season being, before the end of that season.
The Sixers are a complete failure. That is all there is to it. Joel Embiid is essentially a no-show, so a rookie is leading them at 2-11. They are ranked last in both the NBA and the Eastern Conference. It doesn't appear that things will improve anytime soon. They recently suffered a devastating 106-89 loss to the Miami Heat. At the final second, Embiid made the decision that he did want to play, and the Sixers would lose badly. Now, they face a tenacious Grizzlies squad missing standout player Ja Morant.
The Memphis team is good. Despite their ailments, they are still winning games. At 8-6, they sit in 7th position in the difficult Western Conference. They should be a top-6 seed if they keep playing the way they are, and they are only three games away from first place. Without Nikola Jokic, the Grizzlies defeated the Denver Nuggets by 15 points just now. On Tuesday night, the Grizz will meet the Nuggets once more in the NBA Cup. This team will therefore play the Sixers on the second of a back-to-back.
This season, the Sixers have already fallen to the Grizzlies once, and it was a resounding defeat, 124-107. Neither PG nor Embiid were in the starting lineup. McCain scored 19 points off the bench, and Maxey scored 23 points.
The Grizzlies will be eager to improve things beginning with this game because they have struggled in their last few games. In four games, Taylor Jenkins' squad, which is once again beset by injury, has only earned one victory.
The previous time they played at home, the Nuggets defeated them 122-110. Memphis, who are averaging 119.1 points, are without Zach Edey and Ja Morant due to injuries. Three weeks ago, they won the rematch against the Sixers.
