Malawi and Guinea will conclude their Group D Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Bingu National Stadium this Saturday.
The Flames, currently in second place in the group standings, have already secured their spot in Ivory Coast and are eager to wrap up the qualifying campaign on a high note.
Malawi's hopes of making their second Africa Cup of Nations appearance in the last three years were dashed on June 20 when they played out a goalless draw with Ethiopia.
Once again, Malawi struggled to make an impact in attack, failing to threaten the hosts and settling for a draw at the Bingu National Stadium.
Since their opening 2-1 victory over Ethiopia on June 5, Malawi has struggled to find success in their four subsequent Group D matches, managing only one draw and suffering three losses.
This disappointing streak can be attributed to their offensive struggles, as they haven't scored in their last four qualifying games while conceding seven goals.
Currently, they sit second to last in Group D with just four points out of a possible 15, tied with last-placed Ethiopia, who face Egypt in the other group fixture on Friday.
Malawi comes into the weekend following a disappointing run in the 2023 COSAFA Cup, finishing fourth after losing in a penalty shootout to South Africa in the third-place playoff in June.
On the other hand, Guinea suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Brazil in a friendly on June 17, marking their second consecutive loss. In a lopsided match at the Estadi Cornella-El Prat, Joelinton and the Real Madrid trio of Rodrygo, Eder Militao, and Vinicius Junior all scored, giving Brazil an easy victory.
This followed a 2-1 loss to Egypt on June 14, ending their three-game winning streak in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
With three wins from five matches in Group D, Kaba Diawara's team currently sits in second place, three points behind Egypt and five points ahead of Malawi.
Guinea is confident of returning to the winning column as they face Malawi, who have lost their last three encounters, including a goalless draw in March 2016.
Guinea has already secured their place in the tournament and is five points ahead of Malawi, who currently occupy third place. While they have a slim chance of overtaking Egypt for the top spot, it would require a major upset by Ethiopia. Guinea's primary focus is to conclude the campaign on a positive note.
Guinea has prevailed in the last three meetings with Malawi, including two encounters in 2022, one in the AFCON and one in the reverse qualifying fixture, both ending in 1-0 victories for Guinea.
Kaba Diawara's team is considered the favorites, despite their recent losses against high-quality opposition. They managed to score in their 4-1 defeat to Brazil in June and put up a strong fight against Egypt, narrowly losing due to a late Mostafa Mohamed goal.
In terms of predictions, one tip for the Malawi vs. Guinea match is to consider Serhou Guirassy to score at any point during the game. Guirassy, who plays in Germany and made his move from Rennes permanent in the summer, has started the season strongly with six goals in five matches. He has also found the net in Guinea's last two matches and is likely to lead the line with confidence.
