Lens and Lille, who are vying for a spot in the Champions League, are separated by just one point and two spots in the Ligue 1 standings. This Friday's Derby du Nord will take place at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Les Dogues had just finished a 1-1 draw against Brest, a high-flying team, before the international break, while Franck Haise's team had lost 3-1 to Nice at home.

Prior to the exciting two-leg Europa Conference League quarterfinal between Fonseca's team and Aston Villa that takes place next month, the team aims to extend their winning streak to four games in the top flight. Their victory over Nice has propelled them to fourth place in the rankings.

With only three league losses at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy since the start of the 2022–23 season—including just one this season—the 2020–21 Ligue 1 winners can undoubtedly credit their incredible run of home performances for their fourth-place finish.

Fonseca's team has gone nine games without losing at home in Ligue 1 since Reims left with an unexpected 2-1 victory in September. This run of games includes a 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain and a 2-0 victory over Monaco. It has been thirteen months since Lille failed to score in a Ligue 1 game at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Les Sang et Or's hopes of winning the Europa League were dashed by Lens's extra-time loss to Freiburg in the playoff round, and although Lille is still fighting for continental glory this year, Haise's team will now have to devote their whole attention to league affairs for the next several months.

After leaving Europe, the visitors' fortunes have been anything but consistent, with two wins and two losses in their past four Ligue 1 games. They initially narrowly lost to Monaco before dominating Lyon and Brest in back-to-back wins.

But on March 16, Lens' attempt to win three in a row was dashed at home against Nice. Two goals from Terem Moffi, each side of a goal from Khephren Thuram, made sure that Elye Wahi's late goal would be in vain, and Haise's team dropped to sixth place in the top flight standings.

Both Marseille and Rennes are closing in on Lens, but the visitors have a one-point deficit to overcome against recent winners Nice and their next opponents Lille. Based on their away performance, Haise's team should be able to overcome this in the fortress of Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

In fact, Lens has won 10 of the last 12 points that have been up for grabs while traveling, and they have kept an amazing eight clean sheets in their last 10 Ligue 1 away games—no team has more on the road this season. However, their last two meetings with Lille have resulted in a 1-1 draw that has left both teams with equal points.
