Leeds United starts their promotion campaign after the season restart with a fixture at home against Swansea City on Saturday.
The teams currently share identical Championship points with Sheffield United and they maintain a two-point advantage over Burnley yet Swansea City occupies position 16th in the Championship standings.
The international break arrives perfectly for Leeds United because their promotion drive suffered a slowdown from one win in four games leading up to it.
The premier division toppers Leeds United at Birmingham drew 1-1 when West Bromwich Albion visited Elland Road before Portsmouth ended the league streak at 17 matches by winning 2-1.
Leeds United managed to secure their victory over Millwall before their Queens Park Rangers draw following a weak beginning that trapped them defensively.
Even after Jayden Bogle scored the equalizing goal for Leeds in the 51st minute the team could not secure a victory at The Den which left them trailing leaders Leeds United by a mere two points entering the final eighth matches of the season.
Leeds feels grateful to play their promotion matches at Elland Road because their undefeated record at home since their September loss to Burnley reaches 14 wins alongside only two defeats in 16 games.
Swansea has become their lucky opponent because the Foxes have managed four consecutive victories and secured multiple three-goal victories across their previous three duels with Swansea as they secured a wild 4-3 result last November.
Swansea made a public announcement that Alan Sheehan will lead the team as interim manager through the entire campaign since he replaced Luke Williams in January.
Sheehan enjoyed a promising start to his tenure, going unbeaten in his first three games. The Swans secured home victories against Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough, sandwiching a hard-fought 0-0 draw away at Preston North End.
However, momentum stalled heading into the international break, as Swansea suffered consecutive defeats to Watford and Burnley—failing to score in either match.
With just six points keeping them clear of the Championship drop zone, Swansea may be growing anxious about their position. Still, a couple of wins could ease their relegation worries and help maintain their seven-year stay in the second tier.
That said, securing three points won’t be easy—especially against Leeds, a team they haven’t beaten since August 2019. Their recent away form also offers little encouragement, with just one win in their last eight league matches on the road (D1, L7).
