To qualify for the Champions League next season, Lazio need to end their streak of six Serie A draws at Olimpico on Sunday against Lecce.
Capital club clash with a team threatened by relegation, who managed to win after a long run of no victories last time out. Lupi are just outside the bottom three thanks to better head-to-head results with Empoli.
Despite showing strength from the final moments in game, Lazio have suffered setbacks at home that could diminish their hopes of making Champions League football next year.
Baroni’s men only have one success in front of their fans — a 5-1 win over relegated Monza in February — and have drawn seven matches since the year began, failing to keep any of them clean.
For this reason, Baroni’s team are now in sixth and only a point behind Roma, with Juventus above them by another point in fourth and holding the last Champions League place.
The Biancocelesti need to win and count on their opponents to drop points, since Juventus themselves have lost every one of their past five away games in Italy’s top division.
However, Roma is playing so well that it will be hard for Baroni’s side to beat both clubs and finish fourth in the table.
Roma scored an equalising goal against Parma and Juventus in home draws and they did the same against Inter last time to stay in contention for Champions League football.
Unless Lazio can snap their streak of six consecutive home draws at the Olimpico — and both Juventus and Roma falter — they may have to settle for a spot in next season’s Conference League.
This weekend’s clash with Lecce presents a tough challenge, as the Salentini are fighting to avoid relegation and extend their Serie A stay to a fourth straight year.
Marco Giampaolo’s side heads into Sunday’s match on the back of a 1-0 win over Torino in Apulia, their first league victory in four months.
That result also marked Lecce’s first home triumph since mid-December, and they now aim to secure back-to-back Serie A wins for the first time since defeating Empoli (1-0) and Sassuolo (3-0) in April 2024.
Achieving that, however, will require a major turnaround on the road, where they’ve claimed just one of the league’s worst away records and suffered 11 losses in 18 matches.
With Lecce only ahead of Empoli on head-to-head results, they must at least match Empoli’s outcome and hope Venezia doesn’t pull off a shock win over Juventus, or they risk relegation on the final day.
