Inter Miami will strive to secure consecutive victories in the MLS, a feat they haven't accomplished since September, as they prepare to face Nashville SC at Chase Stadium this Saturday.
The Boys in Gold, having been unsuccessful in their last five encounters with Inter Miami since May 2023, are determined to turn the tide and kick-start their season with a triumph over the hosts.
Inter Miami showcased their resilience in their recent triumph, rallying from behind to clinch a 3-2 win against Sporting Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium. Despite Sporting Kansas forward Erik Thommy's impressive brace, standout performances by Diego Gomez, Lionel Messi, and Luis Suarez ensured a much-needed victory for the Herons.
Before their triumph against Sporting Kansas, Inter Miami endured a winless streak spanning five matches across various competitions, including an exit from the CONCACAF Champions Cup following a 5-2 aggregate defeat to Monterrey.
Following two away fixtures, Gerardo Martino's squad returns to Chase Stadium, where they've demonstrated formidable form, remaining undefeated in four of their initial five MLS matches. This home record includes two victories and two draws, with a solitary 3-2 loss to CF Montreal on March 10.
Inter Miami has amassed 15 points from nine MLS matches to date, currently occupying the top spot in the Eastern Conference standings, level with the New York Red Bulls in second place.
However, they will be confident in their ability to secure their initial victory in four home fixtures this upcoming weekend as they confront an adversary who has faltered in their recent five matches, suffering three defeats and managing only two draws since their triumph of 2-1 back in May 2023.
Contrarily, Nashville experienced frustration in their recent match, succumbing to a 2-1 loss against Philadelphia Union at Geodis Park. Former Nottingham Forest forward Sam Surridge found the net in the 42nd minute, granting the hosts the lead. Nonetheless, Julian Carranza equalized in the 62nd minute, and Daniel Gazdag altered the course of the game with a decisive strike in the 90th minute.
Gary Smith's squad has encountered difficulty in their last trio of league encounters, garnering just one point out of a possible nine and securing only one victory in their previous eight matches across all competitions since March began.
An unimpressive beginning to the season has resulted in Nashville amassing merely seven points from their initial seven matches, positioning them in 14th place in the Eastern Conference standings. They stand three points ahead of the bottom-ranked New England Revolution, occupying the 13th spot.
Inter Miami will face a challenge as they navigate the absence of key players positioned along the core of their team, with individuals like Leonardo Campana sidelined due to a hamstring issue, Ian Fray nursing an ACL injury, and Robbie Robinson dealing with a knee problem. Argentine midfielder Facundo Farias remains sidelined since sustaining an ACL injury in January, while Sergii Kryvtsov is in the process of recovering from a hamstring ailment. Federico Redondo's knee injury has also ruled him out, and there's uncertainty surrounding Robert Taylor's availability due to a hamstring concern, despite his commendable performance with two goals in seven MLS matches this season.
In parallel, Nashville also faces its own roster challenges, with Tyler Boyd and Walker Zimmerman undergoing recovery for hip and knee injuries, respectively. Costa Rican midfielder Randall Leal has been sidelined since October due to a severe injury, while Shaq Moore continues to be on the club's injury list due to a hip ailment.
