For Montenegro to qualify for the Euro 2024 championships next summer, they must defeat Hungary on Sunday afternoon in order to make their first-ever major tournament appearance.

If the tiny country wins in Budapest and Serbia loses to Bulgaria, they will qualify; in the meantime, their hosts have already guaranteed a place in Germany.

Hungary's thrilling draw with Bulgaria on Thursday was enough to get them over the finish line and guarantee a top-two spot in Group G, securing their spot in the European Championship finals for the third time in a row.

In Sofia, where the match was played behind closed doors with violent protests outside, the Magyars strode out knowing that qualifying was only around the corner and that a dramatic turn of events would finally secure their ticket.

After trailing 2-1 at the end of the first half and being reduced to 10 players due to Milos Kerkez's red card halfway through the second half, Marco Rossi's team equalized the score in stoppage time with an own goal from Bulgaria's Aleks Petkov in the seventh minute.

Hungary has now won 15 out of 21 games, stretching their winning streak to 11 games in all competitions. They are currently leading Group G, two points ahead of Serbia in second place and four ahead of their opponents on Sunday.

They will now attempt to round off their qualifying campaign in style this coming weekend, before the real Euro preparations start for the following year.

In the rematch in June, Montenegro held Hungary scoreless despite possessing less than one-third of the ball. They then collected four points from matches against Bulgaria and Lithuania to maintain their position in the top two.

But last month's devastating 3-1 loss to fierce rivals Serbia handed a serious blow to Miodrag Radulovic's team, putting them in danger of failing before the finish line.

The fact that Roland Sallai, Attila Fiola, Laszlo Kleinheisler, and Willi Orban are not available this month also limits Rossi's possibilities.

Martin Adam, who scored the game's first goal against Bulgaria, should still start at the top of the lineup, with Dominik Szoboszlai of Liverpool providing advanced midfield support for the Ulsan Hyundai striker.

Stevan Jovetic, who has scored 34 goals at a strike rate of about one every two games to become the Brave Falcons' all-time top scorer, will spearhead Montenegro's assault.
