When Alaves travels to Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Monday night to take on Getafe, they will be looking to make it two victories in a row in Spain's top division.
The visitors come into this game coming off a 4-3 win over Sevilla, while Getafe lost their second game of the new season 3-0 to Girona.
Getafe began their season with a brilliant goalless draw against Barcelona at home, but they were unable to capitalize on that performance as they lost their most recent match by a score of three to Girona.
In Girona, Jose Bordalas' team fell down in the game's 12th minute and was unable to catch up as the home team scored twice more through Cristhian Stuani in the second half.
Getafe will be happy to be back at home on Monday. They haven't lost to Alaves in the country's top division since April 2018, although each of their past six La Liga matches have ended in a draw.
It is disheartening that the Deep Blue Ones have now ended 15th in the first division of Spanish football in their previous three seasons after finishing eighth, fifth, and ninth in 2017–18, 2018–19, and 2019–20.Getafe have been active in the summer transfer market, signing seven new players.
Alaves won a spot in the top division via the Segunda Division playoffs in 2022–23, although they had a poor start to the year and lost against Cadiz by a score of 1-0.
The Europa League winners actually led 2-1 late in the first quarter, but Alaves then scored three times without answering to lead 4-2 before conceding again late on. The promoted team did manage to win last time out, however, as they edged a seven-goal thriller with Sevilla.
One of eight new players signed this summer, Kike Garcia, scored twice against Sevilla, and it now seems that Luis Garcia's team will be one to watch this year.
Alaves has experience playing at this level after spending six consecutive seasons in the top division.
