In Serie A action on Friday, Lazio will visit Genoa for Gameweek 33. They are hoping to win at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

While Alberto Gilardino's team is content in mid-table and has little to aim for other than moving up in the standings, the Biancocelesti, who want to compete in the Champions League the following season, are a different story.

As seen by their impressive performance in the first division, Genoa surprised many by finishing in 12th position after 32 games, even though many had predicted that they would be demoted right away.

Still, Gilardino's players have not needed to rely on points gained at the Marassi to improve their chances of survival since they have been able to eke out results on their travels.

With 18 points earned away from home and 21 points earned at home, the Rossoblu are focused on finishing in the top half of the league rather than nervously eyeing the clubs in the rankings behind them.

No matter what happens this weekend, Genoa in 12th place will definitely stay in that position, with Lecce behind them by seven points and Monza in 11th place, four points ahead of Gilardino's team.

Gilardino's men, however, are hoping for a win to put pressure on the teams immediately above them, with the Biancorossi winless in three (two defeats) and just four points clear of the Rossoblu and Fiorentina preoccupied by European exertions.

Lazio, who just defeated Salernitana 4-1, may have different plans. Igor Tudor's team is back to winning ways.

The capital club needed all the points possible to get back on track after going into gameweek 32 on a two-match losing streak in all competitions following back-to-back victories, so that opponent seemed ideal.

The 10-point difference between the Biancocelesti and fourth-place Bologna makes a top-four spot technically feasible but maybe unachievable, therefore Lazio might have to settle for a hypothetical fifth-place finish.

Tudor's team has surpassed fifth-place Roma in terms of games played, and that difference might drop to three before the Giallorossi take on Bologna on Monday. Roma's outstanding fixture is the last eighteen minutes of the ninety-minute match against Udinese (the score was 1-1 prior to the game's stoppage).

In the final weeks of the campaign, Tudor hopes to establish consistency on his team's travels after suffering two losses in the last three away games (the most recent derby loss came against Lazio). That could mean the difference between pushing for fifth place or finishing outside of possible Champions League positions.
