Atletico Madrid seeks their first win since February 2 while playing Espanyol at RCDE Stadium for a La Liga match on Saturday afternoon.

Atletico Madrid holds the third spot in La Liga with Barcelona scoring four points more ahead of them yet possessing another game so Espanyol sits at position 15 in a four-point gap from the relegation zone.

Espanyol has achieved seven victories and seven draws and endured thirteen defeats throughout their 27 La Liga matches this year which secured their spot at position 15 with 28 points behind the relegation zone by one point.

Espanyol entered that contest with Mallorca after obtaining five points and numerous encouraging results from their previous three matches.

The home matches led by Manolo Gonzalez have resulted in an undefeated streak of eight games for his side. The successful streak includes victories against Real Madrid and draws with Athletic Bilbao which occurred two months ago.

The White and Blues won their place in La Liga through the 2019 Segunda Division playoff so their primary mission this year is staying in the division while any position above 18th will be seen as successful.

Throughout the past three league matches Espanyol managed to produce three draw results against Atletico including a goalless match when both teams played at Wanda Metropolitano Stadium this season during the reverse fixture.

Atletico Madrid faces a severe crisis as La Liga title competition gets out of reach and the Champions League elimination by Madrid Real Madrid destroyed their European dreams.

Amazingly, Atletico had a 2-0 lead at Wanda Metropolitano going into the last 20 minutes, but they gave up four goals, resulting in back-to-back league losses. On March 9, they were defeated 2-1 by Getafe.

The capital team is now four points behind leaders Barcelona in the La Liga standings, but on Thursday night, when Hansi Flick's team plays Osasuna, the difference could be as much as seven points.

Next week, Atletico will host Barcelona for the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final. Given their recent success in La Liga and the Champions League, the Red and Whites now view this competition as even more crucial.
