Contrasting their positions in the Scottish Premiership, two teams that stand only a place apart will play Sunday evening’s match between Dundee United and Aberdeen at Tannadice Park.

The hosts are fourth on the table with 28 points from 18 games and the visitors occupy the third place with 34 points from their first 18 games.

Dundee United, a team that was relegated in the 2022-23 season returned to the Scottish second division as champions and the taeam has been superb upon their return to the Premiership this season.

Jim Goodwin men in the fourth position on the Scottish Premiers’ League table after achieving twenty-eight points from matches after eighteen games with seven wins, seven draws, and four losses, Hibernian clocks seven points in the standings for position in the upper half.

The Tangerines have been especially boosted in recent weeks and they have lost only once in their last eight matches 4-3 to Motherwell and they have only won three matches and drawn four games.

Another win here would not catapult Dundee Utd to third and above Aberdeen but the gap will be only three points, however, past results indicate that the hosts here may not be too forthcoming having been dispatched by Aberdeen in their last three encounters.

For the visitors, after an exceptionally good start to the season, they seem to have come across a major hurdle in the recent fixtures which causes them to slide down the ranking table.

In the initial 16 fixtures of the campaign in all competitions Thelin’s side went un-bowled recording as many as 15 wins and only one draw and started on their path to an evenings end 6-0 surrender to Celtic in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals.

Although Aberdeen first recovered from that heartbreaking defeat by defeating Dundee 4-1 in the Scottish Premiership, they have subsequently lost three of their last seven games and drawn four of them.

Thelin and Aberdeen will be eager to recover from their most recent performance, a humiliating 4-0 loss to Kilmarnock. They should feel more confident going into this matchup given their recent record of three straight victories over Dundee United.

Due to injuries, Dundee United will be missing Declan Gallagher, who was sent out for a red card in the previous game, and Craig Sibbald (groin) and Louis Moult (shoulder).

With top scorer Sam Dalby leading the charge, Goodwin may choose to start the same team in this match after defeating St Johnstone in their previous match.

Due to persistent injury worries, the visitors will be missing Vicente Besuijen, Pape Habib Gueye (muscle), and Jack Milne (ankle) for this game.

Thelin may decide to make several changes to Aberdeen's starting lineup for this match after the team's heartbreaking 4-0 loss to Kilmarnock the previous time out.
