As preseason play begins, we have at least rid ourselves of the filth and muck from all that transpired in the previous season.

Trajan Langdon, the new front office leader, JB Bickerstaff, the new head coach, and a host of other new faces feel at least a little more dependable than the disorganized combination of non-shooting young players and non-defending (and unhealthy) veterans from the previous campaign.

The crew led by Cade Cunningham is still the source of gravity, though. This offseason, the goal was to surround him with a genuine club and a real coach who was committed to developing his young players to the fullest.

The Pistons have seen the departure of players like Killian Hayes, James Wiseman, Isaiah Livers, and Monte Morris. In their place, they've brought in Tobias Harris, Malik Beasley, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Paul Reed.

Additionally, a number of the young players who contributed to last season’s disappointing 14-win campaign are returning, much to many people's surprise.

Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart, the big man duo, are back as well. However, instead of sharing the court in a larger frontcourt setup, both will now rotate at the center position. Duren will offer size and rim protection, while Stewart brings defense and floor spacing.

Jaden Ivey, who had a tough season, also returns. This time, rather than being stationed in the corner and missing numerous three-point attempts, it looks like he’ll have more control of the ball, taking on a more active role alongside Cunningham with an aggressive rotation.

Ausar Thompson is also returning, though he’s yet to be fully cleared to play after a blood clot issue sidelined him late last season.

As the preseason kicks off, it will be interesting to see how Bickerstaff utilizes these new players, especially Harris and Beasley. Beasley, in particular, will face his former team, the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Bucks haven’t changed much from last season and remain led by all-NBA forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, Brook Lopez, and Khris Middleton.
