In a Championship match on Saturday afternoon, freshly promoted Derby County will host Norwich City at Pride Park, hoping to maintain their perfect home record in the early going of the 2024–25 season.

After League One promotion in May, the Rams have had a patchy return to the second level, while the Canaries are still getting over their heartbreaking loss in the playoff semifinal earlier in the season.

Derby County's road record raised its ugly head once again to prevent any momentum developing after back-to-back home victories over Bristol City and bottom-of-the-table Cardiff City. On Saturday, the East Midlands hosts lost by a single goal at the home of promotion-favorite Sheffield United.

Both Kayden Jackson and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing gave the Rams good opportunities to take the lead at Bramall Lane in the first half, but the visitors lacked a decisive edge as Blades midfielder Gustavo Hamer scored the game-winning free kick in the second half.

Derby, who have won three and lost three of their first six games back in the Championship, are now five points clear of Sheffield Wednesday, who are presently occupying the top relegation slot, in 10th place in the second-tier standings with nine points.

The Rams have been flawless at their East Midlands base thus far this season, building on their incredible League One season of 2023–24. They have won four straight games at Pride Park in the Championship and EFL Cup, including second-tier victories over Middlesbrough, Bristol City, and Cardiff.

Even though Paul Warne managed his 400th game at Bramall Lane last weekend, he won't be able to enjoy himself for long as he tries to win over certain Derby supporters who believe the 51-year-old isn't the right player to lead the team to greater heights on the field.

Norwich City came home to East Anglia last Saturday, where the top-six chasers put on an amazing show against Watford, capping a run of three away games that featured an EFL Cup exit at Crystal Palace and a close Championship loss at Swansea City.

Callum Doyle, a Manchester City loanee, opened the scoring for the Canaries with his first goal of the season. Watford's Ryan Andrews then tied the score, but goals from Marcelino Nunez, Ben Chrisene, and Borja Sainz put the game beyond Tom Cleverley's team.

Having struggled with consistency at the start of the new season, Norwich has yet to win consecutive games under the new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup, a Danishman who took over for the unfancied David Wagner after the team's playoff crushing at the hands of Leeds United in May.

With eight points from their first six league games, the Canaries, who finished sixth in the Championship the previous season, will be hoping to at least double that result this time around when they visit Pride Park on Saturday.

Unexpectedly, given the two teams' recent results, Norwich has only triumphed once in their previous six Championship encounters against Derby. However, the Canaries did win their most recent trip to Pride Park in April 2021, when Kieran Dowell scored the game's lone goal.
