Denmark, qualified for Euro 2024, plays Sweden in the first of two all-Scandinavian friendly on Wednesday night at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen.

Their guests won't be vying for continental supremacy this summer, even as Kasper Hjulmand's team finishes up preparations for the European Championship.

Denmark edged their rivals to the top spot in Euro 2024 qualification Group H thanks to a better head-to-head record after matching the Slovenians' tally of 22 points from 10 games, despite being pushed to the limit by an increasingly formidable Slovenian team.

Although Hjulmand's team had a lower goal differential than their opponents at the end, the tie-breakers were quickly forgotten as Denmark and Slovenia were placed in Group C with Serbia and England, the runners-up in 2021.

The Danes have a grudge against the latter in especially after their heartbreaking extra-time loss to England in the Euro 2020 semifinals, but before their quick travel to Germany, they have friendlies against their Nordic rivals, Sweden and Norway, on June 8.

When the defending champions of 1992 lost 2-0 to Northern Ireland in their last qualifying match, qualification had already been secured. However, they have played flawless defense thus far in 2024, drawing 0-0 with Switzerland and crushing the Faroe Islands 2-0 in their doubleheader in March.

Speaking of impressive comebacks, Denmark hasn't let up a goal in a home friendly in almost exactly seven years (having kept an incredible 11 clean sheets since a 1-1 draw with Germany in June 2017). Their last exhibition loss on home soil occurred against France back in 2015.

These figures are extremely painful to read for a Sweden team who flattered to fool during their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, finishing with just 10 points out of a possible 24 as they watched Austria and Belgium easily qualify for the tournament.

The absence of the Blue and Yellow in the European Championships this summer for the first time since 1996 is due to the lack of a Nations League playoff safety net. A fresh face has been entrusted with bringing order back.

After a disastrous qualifying campaign, longtime manager Janne Andersson of Sweden resigned and was replaced as head coach by Jon Dahl Tomasson of Blackburn Rovers. Tomasson is the first non-Swede to lead the Blue and Yellow men's team and will look to surprise his native country this Wednesday.

On March 21, Tomasson suffered a 5-2 loss against Portugal in his debut game; however, he did not have to wait long for his first success, as he led Albania to a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Gustaf Nilsson.

The Blue and Yellow are now set to face their old rivals, Denmark, for the 108th time. They have a slim head-to-head advantage, having defeated the Red and Whites 46 times to 41, however their most recent meeting was a friendly in November 2020 that resulted in a 2-0 loss to the Euro 2020 semi-finalists.
