Before the recent string of injuries to Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic, someone’s got to get the Dallas Mavericks up and running, and tonight that somebody will be Quentin Grimes once more.
Throughout the last three games, Grimes has 19.3 average in the points column, 5.7 in the rebounds column, and 6 in the assists column. He has scored the Over in two of those latest scoring 23/9/6. Consequently, Grimes’ usage has risen from 18.5 to 24.4 and only behind PJ Washington’s 24.9.
Grimes’ hot run starts at great goes beyond this heater with 27.1 PRAs and having hit the Over on this line four times.
There was only one game against the Trail Blazers out of three duels in the season where he scored more than 24 PRAs, though to achieve the Over. His season-best 28 points were recorded on December 1, against the Portland Trail Blazer.
Portland Trail Blazers’ defense is the fifth worst in the league, and this game will benefit Grimes especially. Again, we see that precisely allowing opposing SGs to average 35.8 PRAs this season.
Grimes is the second in usage and scoring, and the first in assists in the last three games. This is good time for him to keep on doing his best to surpass the Over in this case.
Portland has covered in three straight and won twice in that span. The record when the Blazers are the road underdog is 10-9-1 and when underdog of 7.5 points or more it is 10-8.
That makes them a 10-7 at home and 6-3 when they are the favorite of at least 7.5 points, but Dallas suffers when Luka Doncic is out, and Irving is one of those games. With both out, Dallas is 1-4 straight up.
Including the current season, the Mavs are only 1-5 straight up and against the spread over their past half dozen games. I will go with the home team that has more of its players available to take this nice shooting team.
The Portland Trail Blazers, who have won two of their last three games, will attempt to exploit a Dallas Mavericks team that is thin and without Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic.
In the absence of Dallas' great duo, I predict that Quentin Grimes will be the standout of the Trail Blazers vs. Mavericks game.In 19 games, both teams have hit the Over. Over the past five games, Dallas' offensive rating has dropped to 26th as the team struggles to score. The Mavs have scored the ninth-fewest points (108.6) over that time, while the Blazers have scored the eleventh-fewest (109.6).
When Irving and Doncic sit together, Dallas has scored less than 220 points in three of five games.
The Portland Trail Blazers won their last game. They defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 119-100 on the road at Smoothie King Center. Anfernee Simons scored 17 points, Shaedon Sharpe scored 21, and Deni Avdija scored 26.
The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Los Angeles Lakers at home in their most recent matchup. The victory at American Airlines Center was 118-97. Quentin Grimes scored 23, PJ Washington scored 22, and Spencer Dinwiddie scored 19.
In the Blazers' most recent game against the Mavs, which was played at Moda Center, the Blazers won 126-122. The Mavs have won seven of the last ten meetings between these two clubs.
