The Serie A match between Empoli and Como at the Italian city of Como will play a major role in determining the fate of each club in the ongoing season.

Among clubs fighting against relegation the Lariani find themselves in the best spot to survive this season while Empoli faces significant danger of dropping to Serie B.

The controversy around their weekend loss to AC Milan did not create serious worries for Como since their relegation situation still shows signs of improvement throughout this season so far.

Fabregas's team suffered two consecutive defeats in San Siro first to Venezia and then AC Milan yet stayed at the 13th position with a secure seven-point margin ahead of relegation concerns.

The 2025 season has treated Como well since eight of their last nine fixtures feature teams at position 13th and lower with the exception of their final home match against Inter Milan.

The Biancoblu have demonstrated strong performance against tough opponents this season by defeating both Napoli and Fiorentina.

During their last eight games at their Sinigaglia home field Como collected 13 points which would equal position sixth among all Serie A teams at that point, while they have tied Bologna and Roma for most goals scored.

Empoli visitors can carry a vital positive aspect to this game as they defeated Como during their first meeting but they have yet to secure additional wins at home in this campaign.

The reality of Serie B return becomes tangible for Empoli FC since they have failed to secure a league victory in their previous fourteen matches.

Only Reims (in Europe’s top-five leagues) are on a worse losing streak, and compounding Empoli’s struggles is their inability to even scrape draws—11 of their last 14 matches have ended in defeat.

After a decent start, collecting 19 points from their first 15 games, some fans may have hoped for a mid-table push. But since January, things have unraveled for the Tuscan side.

Now sitting three points below the relegation zone—just a year after narrowly avoiding the drop by a single point—Empoli’s struggles are compounded by their toothless attack, which has managed just 23 goals all season.

Their away form offers a glimmer of hope, however, with three of their four league wins coming on the road. They also pulled off a shock Coppa Italia victory at Juventus in late February, earning a semi-final clash with Bologna over two legs, set to begin this week.
