The final match of the Warriors and the Cavaliers for 2024 is on Tuesday where the two powerful teams will meet at the Chase Center.
The Warriors who have been on the receiving end in each of the last three regular season meetings between the two teams will be eager to vent their frustrations on the visitors and come out of the midweek fixture with at least a victory to end the year on a high note.
The Golden State Warriors got back to the winning ways on Friday night as they came from behind and beat the Phoenix Suns 109-105 in the Chase Center.
Having lost 34 points in game which was a season low against the Los Angeles Clippers the night before, Jonathan Kuminga emerged as the Warriors’ leading scorer with 34 points while Stephen Curry scored 22 points on only 9-22 shooting.
This was a relief for the Golden State Warriors after they lost three of their last three games to the Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Clippers.
Still, a target defeat against the Suns has been an overall poor end to the year for Steve Kerr and his men who have registered 4-16 since November 24 and have been able to register 12 wins from the first 15 outings of the campaign.
This poor run of results has seen the Golden State Warriors drop to the 16th position in the Western Conference after 31 of their 32 matches, and they are only ahead of phoenix Suns outside the play–in zone.
As for the Warriors, they will have to replicate such kind of performance in this match in order to achieve back-to-back wins for the first time in 35+ days; nonetheless, the opposition is no pushover since the hosts triumphed in each of the last three regular-season encounters with the Warriors after a 120-114 loss in January 2023.
In other places, soaring high The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Denver Nuggets 149–135 at the Ball Arena on Friday night thanks to a strong offensive performance.
With four of their five starters finishing with at least 20 points, including floor general Donovan Mitchell's 33, and Jarrett Allen recording a 22-point 10-rebound double-double to defeat the Nuggets, the Cavaliers made a season-high 23 3-pointers.
After winning at the Ball Arena, Cleveland has already had four players score 20 points or more in five games this season, which is the most in the NBA. Kenny Atkinson, the team's first-year head coach, is further making a name for himself in the league.
The Cavaliers have won 10 of their last 11 games since losing two straight games to the Atlanta Hawks in a doubleheader in November, and they enter Tuesday's game on a scorching six-game winning run.
As they sit atop the Eastern Conference table with a 27-4 record from their 31 games, Atkinson's team leads the league in field goal percentage (50.6) and is the second-highest scoring team per game this season (122.7).
Gary Payton, who is regarded as day-to-day and will be evaluated next week after suffering a left calf injury against the Lakers on Boxing Day, is still out for the Golden State Warriors.
Brandin Podziemski has been out with a lower abdominal strain, and Moses Moody missed the team's victory over the Suns over the weekend due to a knee ailment. Both players are doubtful for Tuesday's game.
With an average of 27 points in the previous four games, Kuminga has been a bright spot for the Warriors in recent weeks. The 22-year-old will be hoping to leave his imprint once more.
Regarding injuries, the Cavaliers are still missing Isaac Okoro, who has missed all four of their games since suffering a shoulder injury on December 17 against the Brooklyn Nets.
Dean Wade, 28, should play at the Chase Center after overcoming right knee pain to score 11 points in 26 minutes of action against the Nuggets.
