This past February, Super Bowl 57 was yet another thrilling championship game. The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38–35 by making the game-winning field goal with eight seconds remaining.
What about the second round?
The Chiefs (7-2) and Eagles (8-1) square off once more on Monday Night Football, this time in Kansas City. This fall, both teams have once again been the best in their conferences. Kansas City leads the AFC conference standings in spite of a rare setback to the Denver Broncos in Week 7. The Eagles' only loss in 2023 has come against the New York Jets.
On MNF, a matchup between two of the league's top clubs will round up Week 11. The Chiefs' formidable defense, which is ranked second in points allowed this season, will be tested by the top-three scoring offense of the Eagles. The star power on the field means that it will probably be a close fight. We like a certain same-game parlay for Monday Night Football including some of those guys.
In terms of points allowed, the Chiefs' defense is among the best in the NFL. However, Kansas City is by no means the strongest team in the league when it comes to yards. The Chiefs are 16th in the NFL in running yards allowed per game at 112 yards. One of the worst teams Philadelphia will play against this season is that one.
In terms of rushing yards per game this season, the Eagles are sixth in the league. Given quarterback Jalen Hurts' infatuation with goal-line sneaks for scores, it might be challenging for Swift to locate the end zone. On the other side, the Eagles running backs might have access to plenty of yards.
In 2023, the Eagles' defense saw a minor regression, particularly in pass defense. When playing against quarterbacks like Zach Wilson, Mac Jones, and Baker Mayfield, they give up the fifth-highest amount of passing yards per game (257) in the league. Not the schedule's most prolific offensive team.
Last week, Mahomes had a poor performance against the Dolphins, finishing with a season-low 185 yards. This week, on Monday Night Football, he'll get back on track against a pass defense that has given up a lot of yards. Mahomes will gain from Andy Reid's, the Chiefs' coach, reputation for being effective following a bye week.
Talented tight ends have shown particular vulnerability to the Eagles' pass defense. This season, Philadelphia has let a tight end score in four games, the latest two of which were players like Logan Thomas and Jake Ferguson. Even though Kelce is a far more impact player than those two, they are still very good players.
Kelce had a couple of poor performances; in Miami and Denver, he was scoreless and only managed 72 yards receiving across the two games. However, similar to Mahomes, he will capitalize on coach Reid's bye week and exploit a hole in the Philadelphia pass defense.
Against a strong group of wide receivers, the Chiefs' defense prevailed over Miami. The Dolphins' top receiver, Tyreek Hill, with eight catches on ten targets in that game. The physicality of Kansas City's defensive backs will work to Brown's advantage. He can be the physical receiver Hurts needs to move the chains since he is up to the challenge of playing hard and tight end Dallas Goedert is out for this one.
With 22 sacks allowed, the Eagles' offensive line is in the middle of the pack. With 31 sacks this season, the Chiefs defense has the third-highest total in the NFL. Stars will need to step up if this game is decided by a few possessions in the fourth quarter. Late in games, Jones will find his way to Hurts and contribute precisely that.
