On Saturday evening, two struggling La Liga teams, Celta Vigo and Sevilla, will face off at the Estadio Municipal de Balaidos. Celta currently occupies the 18th spot in the table with only six points from 11 matches this season. Meanwhile, Sevilla sits in 14th place, having secured 10 points from their first 10 games.

Despite the high-profile appointment of Rafael Benitez as head coach over the summer, Celta has had a challenging start under his guidance. They have only managed one win, three draws, and seven losses in their 2023-24 La Liga campaign, resulting in their low position.

While Celta did advance to the second round of the Copa del Rey with a 4-0 victory over Turegano on Wednesday, they haven't tasted success in the league since early September when they defeated Almeria 3-2 away.

Benitez's side has suffered five losses in their last seven league matches, including defeats to Atletico Madrid and Girona. They face another formidable challenge next Friday when they play Athletic Bilbao away.

In recent history, Celta's matches against Sevilla have tended to end in draws, with the last three encounters finishing level. However, Celta hasn't managed to beat Sevilla in any competition since February 2020.

On his comeback from a fitness concern, Carles Perez scored twice off the bench against Turegano; nevertheless, the forward should now start this game while Ivan Villar is returned from suspension.

Although Iago Aspas has yet to score a goal this season, the 36-year-old is anticipated to continue playing with Jorgen Strand Larsen in the final third of the field.

As for Sevilla, they are worried about the availability of four players because Alfonso Pastor, Jesus Navas, Suso, and Sergio Ramos are all scheduled for late fitness tests.

Meanwhile, Sevilla has yet to kick-start their campaign in the current league season, having only managed to gather 10 points from 10 matches. This underwhelming performance has placed them in the 14th position on the league table.

Diego Alonso, who took charge as head coach on October 10, has overseen four matches so far, achieving one victory, two draws, and one defeat during his tenure.

Sevilla's most recent fixture saw them secure a 3-0 win against Quintanar in the Copa del Rey last Wednesday, but they were held to a 2-2 draw by Cadiz in their last league outing.

It's worth noting that the team, who are the reigning Europa League champions, hasn't tasted victory in La Liga since the end of September. Furthermore, they find themselves in a challenging position in the Champions League, currently occupying the third spot in Group B, trailing second-placed Lens by three points after three matches.

Despite an important upcoming Champions League clash against Arsenal next week, Sevilla cannot afford to divert their attention away from their league commitments. A favorable result in this match would provide a positive momentum for the team as they head into their European encounter with the Gunners in North London.

Celta Vigo will be missing the services of two key first-team players due to injuries, with Joseph Aidoo and Mihailo Ristic unavailable for selection in the upcoming weekend.

However, Marcao's thigh issue means he is definitely out of the competition.

Although Joan Jordan's performance in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday may guarantee that he maintains his spot here, head coach Alonso will make alterations to the starting lineup.

The away team's lineup is expected to be led by Youssef En-Nesyri, who scored in the same match. Lucas Ocampos and Dodi Lukebakio will also be back in the last third of the field.
