Two Premier League teams aiming to recover from recent losses will face off at the American Express Community Stadium on Saturday evening as Brighton & Hove Albion welcome Newcastle United.

The Seagulls and the Magpies last clashed in the Premier League Summer Series tournament during the summer, where Eddie Howe's team emerged victorious with a 2-1 scoreline.

Before the last weekend's home match against West Ham United, Brighton supporters held optimism after commanding wins against Luton Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers, both with a 4-1 margin.

However, Roberto De Zerbi's team is now pondering over their situation after an unexpected 3-1 loss to West Ham, despite holding 78% possession and making 25 attempts on goal. Even a late goal by Pascal Gross, who has become the club's top scorer in the Premier League with 27 goals, could not salvage the defeat. Earlier strikes from James Ward-Prowse, Jarrod Bowen, and Michail Antonio handed Brighton their first loss of the season.

Defensive errors were responsible for Brighton's downfall, but De Zerbi remains "frustrated" with the result rather than the performance. Despite securing an impressive sixth-place finish last season, the Italian coach calls for realistic expectations despite aiming higher this term.

Seeking to avoid back-to-back league losses for the first time since October last year, Brighton aims to bounce back against Newcastle. However, their recent history against Newcastle hasn't been favorable, with four consecutive winless meetings, including two home draws.

Newcastle also faced disappointment, losing 2-1 against 10-man Liverpool despite leading most of the match. Despite a red card to Virgil van Dijk and an opening goal from Anthony Gordon, Liverpool's Darwin Nunez struck twice late in the game to turn the tide against Newcastle.

Eddie Howe acknowledged the tough defeat but remains encouraged by Newcastle's start to the season. Despite collecting only three points out of nine possible, he believes his team can recover swiftly.

Though a return to winning ways on Saturday is desired, Newcastle's track record at Brighton is concerning, having failed to win in their last six Premier League visits. They've also struggled in away games, winning only one of their last five, and have conceded in their last ten away matches.

Brighton and Newcastle began the season strongly but now face the challenge of proving themselves in their upcoming Premier League match. Brighton's strong start seemed to validate their impressive sixth-place finish from the previous season, yet a 3-1 loss to West Ham after victories against Luton Town and Wolves tempered the initial optimism.

Despite the West Ham loss, Brighton holds sixth place in the league table and boasts impressive statistics. They lead in shots taken, shots on target, touches in the opposition box, and expected goals (xG) this season. Notably, their 30 shots on target in the opening three games mark the highest tally in over a decade.

Given Newcastle's desire to avoid a third consecutive Premier League defeat, facing Brighton's attacking prowess poses a challenge. While the narrow loss to Manchester City wasn't alarming, the defeat to Liverpool after leading most of the match was concerning for Eddie Howe.

Ahead of the match, Lewis Hall could make his debut for Newcastle, having joined on loan from Chelsea. Joelinton's fitness is also being assessed due to a knee injury. For Brighton, Julio Enciso is unavailable, making Kaoru Mitoma an important player to watch against Newcastle. The Japanese player already has three goal involvements this season, and only Phil Foden of Man City has created more chances from a ball carry than Mitoma's five.
