On Tuesday night, at Estadio da Luz, Benfica hosts Sporting Lisbon, aiming to overturn a first-leg deficit in the Taca de Portugal semi-final clash.

Benfica seeks to reach the final of the competition for the first time since the 2020-21 season, while Sporting Lisbon aims to end their four-year absence from the Taca de Portugal final.

Having suffered a 2-1 defeat in the first leg at Estadio Jose Alvalade on February 29, Benfica found themselves trailing by two goals by the 54th minute, with Pedro Goncalves and Viktor Gyokeres scoring for Sporting Lisbon. Fredrik Aursnes narrowed the gap in the 68th minute, giving Benfica a glimmer of hope.

Following the loss to Sporting Lisbon, Benfica endured a disappointing 5-0 defeat to Porto in the league. However, they have since displayed resilience, going unbeaten in five matches across all competitions and securing victories in their last four, including a 1-0 win over Chaves on Friday.

With just one point behind Sporting in the league, although having played a game more, Benfica remains in contention for a treble this season. They are also in the quarter-final of the Europa League, set to face Marseille, and have the opportunity to reach the Taca de Portugal final.

In their encounters with Sporting Lisbon this season, Benfica and Sporting have each secured one victory, both with a 2-1 scoreline for the home team on both occasions.

If this pattern persists on Tuesday, the match could extend into extra time and possibly penalties. However, both teams would prefer to avoid such a scenario, given their upcoming league encounter just four days after the semi-final.

Sporting Lisbon enters this game as the league leaders in Primeira Liga, having defeated Estrela Amadora 2-1 on Friday night.

Leonel Bucca's goal for Estrela put the Lions behind early in the game, but goals from Paulinho and Nuno Santos gave the team the lead just before halftime.

After falling to Atalanta BC 3-2 on aggregate in the round of 16, Ruben Amorim's club has already been eliminated from the Europa League. Their only remaining titles to contend with are the Primeira Liga and Taca de Portugal championships.

Sporting currently has a little advantage over Benfica in both scenarios and has a chance to advance to the final and increase their lead in the league this week.

Benfica has no concerns regarding injuries or suspensions ahead of their upcoming match, granting Schmidt a plethora of choices for his squad selection.

Following a muscle injury in October, Spanish defender Juan Bernat marked his return to the squad against Chaves recently.

Although Marcos Leonardo was rested in the previous match, he is expected to resume his position leading the forward line on Tuesday, with Rafa Silva, the team's leading scorer, playing in support behind the striker.

Sporting Lisbon continues to be without midfielder Goncalves, who sustained an injury during the Europa League match against Atalanta on March 14 and hasn't returned since.

Additionally, Spanish goalkeeper Antonio Adan remains sidelined due to a thigh problem, causing him to miss the last seven matches for the Leoes.

Gyokeres continues to shine this season, boasting an impressive record of 36 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions. He is anticipated to once again spearhead the attacking line for Sporting Lisbon.
