Borussia Monchengladbach face a crucial match against newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on Saturday at Allianz Arena, needing a victory to keep their European aspirations alive.

Bayern secured the title after a 3-3 draw with RB Leipzig on May 3, holding a 76-point lead, eight points ahead of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen with two games left. Monchengladbach, sitting ninth with 45 points, trail the European qualification spots by five points and three positions. In their Leipzig match, Bayern fought back from a 2-0 deficit to lead 3-2 with Leroy Sane’s 83rd-minute goal, only for Yussuf Poulsen to equalize in stoppage time.

Vincent Kompany’s Bayern clinched their 12th title in 13 seasons after Leverkusen’s draw with Freiburg on May 4. Despite an inconsistent run of three draws and one loss in their last eight league games, Bayern capitalized on Leverkusen’s stumble. They conceded 12 goals but scored 21 in those matches, managing two clean sheets in their last three.

Bayern edged Monchengladbach 1-0 on January 11 and have won their last three meetings with a combined score of 6-2. However, their recent home form has been shaky, with two losses and a draw in their last five at Allianz Arena.

Monchengladbach, meanwhile, played out a thrilling 4-4 draw against Hoffenheim on May 3, squandering 2-0 and 3-2 leads before Tim Kleindienst’s 91st-minute equalizer salvaged a point. That match marked their second straight game conceding four goals, with 14 goals allowed in their last five outings.

Sixth-place RB Leipzig is five points ahead of the Fohlen in the Conference League, but even if the team doesn't make it to Europe this season, manager Gerardo Seoane deserves credit for his tenure because they already have 11 more points than they did in 2023–24.

Seoane can take pride in his efforts, but his team has lost three of their last five games and is winless overall.

Borussia Monchengladbach has also lost twice in their last three away games, despite winning their previous four away games.
