La Liga's current champions When Barcelona hosts Sevilla at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on Friday night, they will be looking to get back to winning ways.

With 17 points, the host team enters the game third in the standings. On Tuesday, they drew 2-2 with Mallorca, while Sevilla, who is in 12th place, defeated Almeria 5-1.

Barcelona had a six-game winning streak going into their match against Mallorca on Tuesday, but they were ultimately forced to share the points with Javier Aguirre's team.

Fermin Lopez tied the score at 2-2 in the 75th minute after Mallorca twice took the lead on home soil. Barcelona, who entered the game with a record of five victories and two draws through their first seven La Liga games, ensured that they remained unbeaten this season.

With 17 points, Xavi's team is third in the standings. Next week, they will go to Porto for their second Champions League group encounter, and they will be looking to get back to winning ways in the league.

Barcelona has done a remarkable job of adjusting to life in their temporary home stadium, Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, winning all four of their games this season across all competitions, despite falling behind 2-0 to Celta Vigo at home last weekend before coming back to win the game.

The Catalan team has defeated Sevilla in each of their last three league meetings, and they have not suffered a loss to the team they will face on Friday in Spain's top division in eight years.

Sevilla has struggled to get going this season, but recent improvements have been made, and they come into this encounter with a four-game unbeaten streak across all competitions.

The team led by Jose Luis Mendilibar has not suffered a defeat since losing to Girona 2-1 at home at the end of August. They have also gained seven points in their previous three league games, moving them up the standings into 121st place.

Youssef En-Nesyri, Dodi Lukebakio, Suso, Erik Lamela, and Kike Salas all scored as Sevilla thrashed Almeria 5-1 in La Liga on Tuesday, easily their greatest performance of the season.

A sign of how quickly things can change at this juncture in the season is the fact that the Europa League champions are currently only three points behind fifth-place Atletico Madrid in the table.

Los Nervionenses placed 12th in La Liga last season, which was their lowest performance since being demoted in 1999-2000. However, they qualified for the Champions League by winning the Europa League, and next week, they will play PSV Eindhoven away in their second group round match.
