Olympiacos vs. Asvel: Analysis and Forecast Asvel will take against Olympiacos at home in the Round 16 of the EuroLeague.
Asvel is a member of the EuroLeague initiative, which aims to penetrate the Western European market—far more intriguing than the Eastern one. Asvel qualified for the top tournament as a result, but he hasn't shown that he deserves it for a number of years.
A situation like this mostly referred to the time when T. J. Parker was this team's coach. Due to his brotherly bond with Tony Parker, the French strategist was unable to find the correct rhythm and at times appeared to be an endless coach. But that, too, ended when it became evident to all in the club that T. J. had the necessary skills to guide a EuroLeague team.
Gianmarco Pozzecco took over and transformed the squad's dynamic right away. He led the team to several significant victories but fell to Milan 84:61 in the first half of the game. With 12 points, Joffrey Lauvergne was the most productive player for the losing team during that encounter and the lone bright spot in their dismal offensive effort.
Although Asvel is a small team and lacks the talent to contend for the postseason, they are nonetheless capable of upsetting more established teams. If Pozzecco is prepared to take such a step, only time will tell. If not, Parker will have no trouble replacing the Italian.
Olympiacos has experienced numerous ups and downs lately. Kostas Sloukas and Sasha Vezenkov, the two most important players on the club, were retained despite a major overhaul. The entrance of Nikola Milutinov was an attempt by the red and whites to make up for the significant setback.
It doesn't seem good so far. At first, it appeared as though Olympiacos would play greater defense and be able to "cover" for the aforementioned absences. However, as games go on, it becomes increasingly evident that playing strong defense is insufficient to win the Euroleague on a regular basis. Olympiacos has now lost two straight games, the first against Valencia in Piraeus (63:56) and the second against Virtus in Bologna (69:67). The latter came after the Italian side turned things around in the fourth quarter. Giannoulis Larentzakis scored 13 points and Moustapha Fall scored 12 to lead the losing team.
The fact that Olympiacos lost despite scoring 63 and 69 points clearly indicates which end of the court the team's issues lie. If this team is to compete for the top spot in the EuroLeague, they will need to improve their offensive performance.
Olympiacos will undoubtedly be driven to break that losing run and demonstrate that the previous phase was only the result of a few unlucky events and that both of those games might have been victories. Olympiacos has equaled two defeats. Olympiacos is able to thwart all of the opponents' offensive options, so we anticipate that the red and white will win by a larger margin than the handicap provided due to the superior level of play.
