In the upcoming Week 8 matchup, the Baltimore Ravens, currently at 5-2, are set to face the Arizona Cardinals, who stand at 1-6. The Ravens have been performing impressively, particularly on defense, leading the league in various key statistics. Despite allowing a moderate 4.2 yards per carry, their robust pass defense compensates for it.
Their recent dominant display against the Lions showcased their defensive prowess. On the offensive front, Lamar Jackson's exceptional performance, along with contributions from players like Mark Andrews, Justice Hill, and Gus Edwards, solidified their strong ground game and passing proficiency. Turnovers have been a minor setback, but they generally excel in moving the ball forward.
Contrastingly, the Cardinals began the season with a notable win against the Dallas Cowboys, but subsequently faced four consecutive double-digit losses. Their defensive performance has been subpar, struggling to contain opponents and ranking poorly in various defensive metrics. Despite accumulating a decent number of sacks and takeaways, their overall defense remains underwhelming.
In terms of offense, Kyler Murray's return from a knee injury is imminent, offering a potential boost. However, key players like Zach Ertz and James Conner are on the injured reserve. The Cardinals have averaged 18.1 points per game, with a stronger showing in their home games. Their passing game ranks 31st in the league, while their rushing game is a notable strength, boasting the second-highest average. To stand a chance on Sunday, controlling the clock through consistent first downs will be crucial for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals' running game must be aggressive if they are to have any chance in this contest. Arizona will have to rely on their passing attack, which ranks 29th in yards per attempt and 31st in yards per game, if they are forced to pass. That's prior to taking on a Ravens defense that leads the NFL in both sacking opposing quarterbacks and limiting yards per attempt.
The Cardinals probably won't hold it close with Arizona's defense, which allows the fourth-most yards per play to be gained, facing off against Baltimore's sixth-most yards per play offense. This Sunday, the Ravens should score on the majority of the Lions' possessions after handily defeating them with 38 points. When Arizona is destroyed by Baltimore this week, don't be shocked.
