Ankaragucu will aim to achieve a significant upset and secure their first victory in the 2023-24 Turkish Super Lig season when they face Fenerbahce this Sunday.

Ankaragucu made a narrow escape from relegation last season, finishing just two points clear of the drop zone in a tightly contested battle. It was a season where only three points separated the 10th-placed Kasimpasa from the teams in danger of relegation, including Ankaragucu. In fact, their survival marked the third consecutive season where they avoided relegation at this level, with one of those times due to the COVID-19 pandemic canceling relegation.

Their current season has seen them draw their last two matches against Adana Demirspor and Fatih Karagumruk after an initial loss to Kasimpasa. These draws showcase their resilience in coming from behind on both occasions. Nevertheless, facing Fenerbahce this Sunday, they'll need more than just team spirit to avoid defeat. Fenerbahce arrives in Ankara with confidence, having a perfect record in the league thus far.

Fenerbahce has been striving to clinch the Turkish Super Lig title since their last victory in 2014, marking almost a decade-long wait. Despite finishing second five times in the following nine seasons, including the last two, they have entered a new era under the guidance of Ismail Kartal, following Jorge Jesus's departure during the summer.

Kartal previously served as an assistant manager at Fenerbahce during their last title-winning campaign and managed the subsequent season. He's eager for greater success this time, and his team has started the season impressively. They've convincingly defeated Gaziantep FK and Samsunspor in the league, and in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds, they dispatched Zimbru, Maribor, and FC Twente. This run presents a chance for Fenerbahce to secure their first-ever European competition title.

Nevertheless, Kartal's primary focus remains winning the league, and he expects his team to return from Ankara with all three points this weekend, ensuring a perfect record as they head into the international break.
